The Quality Mechanical Inspector is responsible for inspecting precision machined components and assemblies to ensure they meet customer and internal specifications. This role performs first article, in-process, and final inspections using both manual and automated tools, while supporting production and quality teams in maintaining consistent standards. Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, experienced with CMM and GD&T, and committed to quality and accountability in a precision manufacturing environment.
Inspection
- Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections of machined parts and assemblies.
- Use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, height gauges, and indicators.
- Operate and program coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
- Inspect incoming raw materials and components from outside processing.
- Ensure inspections are completed accurately and documented on travelers, reports, and logs.
- Support nonconformance investigations and communicate quality issues to the shop supervisor or lead.
Quality Support
- Interpret and apply GD&T standards to inspection tasks and communication.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, control plans, and customer specifications.
- Support quality system improvements by maintaining proper documentation and inspection records in accordance with ISO 9001:2015.
- Assist with internal audits and preparation for external quality audits.
Safety & Workplace Organization
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized inspection area.
- Maintain tools and equipment in proper working order and report issues as needed.
- Contribute to a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 5 years of inspection experience in a machining environment.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint interpretation.
- Knowledge of basic Inspection tools, including verniers, Micrometers, height Gauge, Optical Comparator, etc.
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
- Ability to work independently while maintaining open communication with the team.
Preferred
- Experience operating and programming a CMM.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and quality system documentation.
- Ability to lift and handle materials up to 35 lbs.
- Standing for extended periods and working with precision inspection tools.
- Ability to visually inspect small components and operate computer-based inspection equipment.
- Manual dexterity and fine motor skills required for tool handling and measurement tasks.
